Why Queen & Freddie Mercury?

Freddie Mercury (Queen) suffered from HIV in the early years of the epidemic, in a day when the illness had all kinds of social fears surrounding the disease and those whom suffered from it.  In the first decade of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, those infected had little or no treatment for the disease, and society itself feared the mere existance of those carrying the virus.  For this reason, he sited, Freddie hid his illness from the world.   He feared that if he admitted publicly to his health condition, the band's safety would be at risk, not to mention the possible backlash from fans, and the industry as a whole.   Finally in November of 1991, Freddie anounced he suffered from AIDS,the day preceding his death.

The significance of this, is Daniel too, chose to smile amist great challenges in his own life, always bringing joy to those around him.  While Daniel's life did not end as a direct result of HIV, the struggle  for acceptance of oneself, and from others is something each of us struggle with.
