A 21-year-old construction worker died in a crane accident in Maryland Heights Tuesday morning.
Steven Lillicrap was a subcontractor with Ben Hur Construction. He was working on a new Edward Jones building with McCarthy Construction when he got caught in a crane.
The accident happened just after 9 a.m. Lillicrap was disassembling a crane when police say his safety harness somehow got caught in the cables.
"We showed up and had one worker that was trapped within some of the lattice work on some of the cable

cranes," said Deputy Chief Steve Rinehart, Maryland Heights Fire Department.
The large steel cables crushed Lillicrap's arm and chest. Workers used a second crane to free him, but he was unconscious.
"We extricated him, got him in the ambulance and transported him," Rinehart said.
He died at the hospital a short time later.
McCarthy Brothers Construction, which manages the site, said in a statement, "We are greatly saddened by this tragic incident and wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and to all the employees at Ben Hur Construction."
This is the second time rescue crews have responded to the site for a major accident in the last three months.
OSHA has no record of the first accident here at this site, but a McCarthy spokesperson said it happened back in November 2008 when a dry-waller broke his collar bone. The worker was trapped between the building and an external elevator.
OSHA was not involved because it was not fatal and only one person was hurt. A supervisor said the worker made a mistake. He's still recovering, but McCarthy Brothers suspended him from the site for safety violations.
OSHA is now investigating this and any past incidents. McCarthy Brothers said it won't know what really went wrong until the investigation is over.
A McCarthy Brothers spokesperson said safety is the top priority on site. The company incident rate is four times better than the industry average.
McCarthy Construction plans to do its own investigation and take another look at on-site safety.
